National Estate Planning Awareness Week, October 16-23, 2023

This week at O’Brien Law, we are proud to join our colleagues in promoting National Estate Planning Awareness Week, or NEPAW. Established in 2008 by the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils, this awareness week aims to help people understand the importance of having an updated plan to protect their assets and loved ones.

If you don’t currently have an estate plan, know you are not alone. According to the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils, more than 120 million Americans find themselves in the same position. Commonly cited reasons for this gap include feeling too young to plan an estate, not having enough assets, concerns regarding costs, and an overall lack of familiarity with the process.

In reality, a well-structured estate plan is not just a means of asset protection, but a vital instrument in ensuring the security of you and your loved ones. Estate plans outline how a person's assets, properties, and responsibilities are managed, distributed, and protected both during their lifetime and after their passing. Maintaining an updated estate plan is an essential safeguard against unforeseen circumstances such as illness, accidents, or untimely passing.

During this week, we ask you to talk with your loved ones and begin thinking about updating your current plan or taking the first steps in the estate planning process. At O’Brien Law, we stand ready to answer any questions and assist you in creating a comprehensive plan to secure a comfortable future for you and your family!
